There is a certain joy in writing. Words are always there, waiting to be included in a story,
essay or poem. When the mood strikes, pencil and paper or recorder are close at hand. We can do it anywhere: on
cruises, at family gatherings, during lectures, in the office ( at lunch, of course), or stuck in traffic.
Seeing your thoughts expressed just the way you want is extremely satisfying. And
it should come naturally. Just pretend you are telling your story over the phone, to a friend. How would you describe
an event or a scene? Write it down that way. When someone comments on how hard or how much work it is to write,
I reply "No, it isn't. If it was work, I wouldn't do it."
Don't slave over every line, angling for an obscure reference or a subtle nuance to impress
a reader, editor, or critic. A well written piece relays the message you intended without making the reader get out the
thesaurus or encyclopedia to understand it. You see, reading, just like writing, should not
be work.
As you browse through the offerings on this site, I hope you have as much fun reading them as
I had developing them. Drop me a line and let me know.
